The previous blog about having a solid system for keeping track of your online purchase contact information is one example of a template.

David Allen in Getting Things Done makes suggestions that people have many types of Lists.

  • Lists of “Someday/Maybe” projects you want to do,
  • lists of videos you eventually want to rent,
  • lists of Ideas for a online business, etc.

A particular list I have is a “Weekday To-Do” template List..

When you take a day off from work, how many different times do you recall the next day that you should have done this or that, on that free weekday?

My Weekday-off list includes, among other things:
- Go To Costco (popular warehouse store) - to avoid weekend crowds
- See a movie that just came out
- Call a customer service representative that’s hard to reach after work
- Go to the mall (for stuff that I can only get there and nowhere else.)

THESE are the kinds of errands I always forget. On that free weekday, my attention is always on how to be as lazy as possible, or just to organize the closet before the 3 or 4 hours of tv, and I’m always wondering what I’m missing.

There are freeware programs that allow you to keep lists, such as Treepad, even though this is more of an outline but can be used as a database/list utlity.
