I started using UltraEdit - a programmer’s editor - for much more than just writing DOS batch files or editing configuration .INI files.

I realized suddenly that I always seem to have Ultraedit open in memory. It survives all of my other “application closing/opening”, and seems to hang around ready to switch to.

I guess it’s because I have specialized tools for other things, but in U.E. I do pretty everything when one of my other specialized apps are closed. If I happen to close HTML-Edit, then I’ll switch over to always-open UEdit. Then I realized it’s a good place to immediately go to just start writing something that needs to be done. Especially, Articles to distribute for web traffic.

I have an ongoing “Article-Scratch.txt” file in my e:\business\web folder.

More important than deciding on just one file to immediatley start a first draft, is being able to immediately pull the file open in UltraEdit so I can get to work.
U.E. has a ‘Favorites” item under the File menu. So “Article-Scratch.txt” is one of those files, and I actually name the file “0-Article-Scratch.txt” so it shows up on top.

Being able to pull up some kind of tool right away to start spewing out an article is what works for me.

It’s just Alt-F / V.

You can do the same thing - with even more ease - if you get the free version of Notetab Lite. Notetab Lite has a ‘Favorites’ menu all on its own, like Internet Explorer does.
